My 2024 Reading List

My 2024 Reading List

In no particular order, here is my reading list for this year (next 6 months?).

  • The Four Agreements (Don Miguel Ruiz)
  • Accelerate (John P Kotter)
  • Nudge (Richard H Thaler & Cass R. Sunstein)
  • Alchemy: The Dark Art and Curious Science of Creating Magic in Brands, Business, and Life (Rory Sutherland)
  • Decisive (Chip Heath & Dan Heath)
  • Outsmart Your Brain (Daniel T Willingham)

This year I’ve challenged myself to shift how I read books. In prior years, I’ve listened to a lot of non-fiction books thanks to my library card and the Libby application. I usually get in 1.5 hours on my commute to and from the office.

After I finish an audiobook, I feel like I have a good understanding of the book, but that fades fast. Going forward, my plan is to go through the physical copy of the book and highlight nuggets as I read it.

I’ll be using Ryan Holiday’s method for reading. Ryan Holiday, if you are not familiar, is an author, bookstore owner, and voracious reader. On his YouTube channel, he shares loads of book recommendations and his method for reading books.

In a nutshell, his process is to mark up his books and takes notes in the margins. Once he’s finished, he goes back through the book and pulls out all of his highlights and notes and writes them down on notecards. I won’t go as far as making individual notecards, but I will pull out all of my notes into a file.

I’m excited about this new method of reading and looking forward to the information recall after going through this process.

What are you reading? What should I add to my list?
